FAQ
- Q1. [Consultation] How does the statistic consultation proceed?

Most of the consultations are divided into two cases: advisory task and data analysis task.
In first case, we will make an appointment for interview to give advice about your question. You may request additional data analysis after the counselor has given his/her initial advice.
In the other case, your counselor confirm your objectives and data through an interview. Once your counselor analyze your data, they will notify you of the result.
- Q2. [Consultation] Are consultations available only to students from Seoul National University?

No, everyone can apply for consultation. We have accepted many applications from other university, institutes and firms.
- Q3. [Consultation] How much time does the consultation take, and how much does it cost?

It depends on the amount of work and technique of analysis. If you send us an application for consultation, we will notify you via phone interview about the amount of time and the cost approximately.
However, please understand that we do not take urgent requests.
- Q4. [Consultation] Who analyzes the data?

Depending on the analytical skills required, your request may be filled by professors in the Department of statistics, post-doctoral researchers, or graduate school students (doctoral degree/master degree).
- Q5. [Lecture] When are open lectures given?

Open lectures are given only when school is not in session, because it is difficult to reserve classrooms during the semester.
Detailed schedules are provided prior to the end of each semester. Please refer to the official website and posters on campus.
- Q6. [Lecture] Are individual lectures offered?

Lectures for specific individual or group are not offered. However, you are encouraged to contact lecturers (specialists) on your own to hire them personally.
- Q7. [Lecture] Are students from other universities also eligible to apply for open lectures and for student discount?

Yes, anyone is eligible to attend the open lectures. In addition, anyone who is able to prove their student status (proof of enrollment, entrance certificate, or registration certificate of researcher at graduate school, etc) are classified as students and therefore eligible for student discounts.
- Q8. [Lecture] Are staff members from other universities eligible to pay for staff discounts?

No, only staff members at Seoul National University are eligible.
- Q9. [Academic-Industrial Cooperation] Is it possible to forgo the research service and only receive advice for companies or institutions?

Yes, advice is offered in a similar manner as with statistical consultation. Please call for more details.
